If you own a home with aluminum wiring and are having electrical problems or thinking about making changes, it's really important to talk to a qualified electrician. Aluminum wiring was commonly used in older houses, but it's been linked to safety issues and fire risks. Because aluminum wiring can have problems like oxidation and expanding/contracting, it can lead to loose connections and maybe even a fire risk.
Nowadays, people often use copper wiring for better safety. A certified electrician knows how to check your electrical system thoroughly. The skilled team of electricians at Mister Sparky will look for signs of trouble, like overheating or loose connections caused by the aging of the aluminum components.
Once they figure out what's going on, they'll suggest solutions based on your specific situation. They will also replace electrical devices like outlets and switches with ones made for aluminum wiring. This helps make sure everything works well together and lowers the risk of issues from different materials being used.
Call our team of aluminum wiring repair and replacement electricians at (281) 823-7186. Our team is ready to take your call 24/7.
Aluminum wire was popular in the 1960s and 1970s because of its weight, conductivity, and low cost. Though it has a bad reputation, aluminum wire is not always a fire risk if installed properly. Since aluminum shrinks and expands depending on the temperature, its connections to terminals can naturally loosen. Improperly secured aluminum wiring can loosen over time and cause sparks and overheating. The dangerous parts of aluminum wiring are at switches, outlets, and other terminals.
Electricians may not always need to replace aluminum wiring. However, if your home has aluminum wiring, you should always have it inspected by an electrician for safety. Since this type of wiring has the potential to be exceptionally dangerous, a pro should always be the one to inspect it. If you’re planning on selling your home soon, know that some home inspectors will no longer pass houses with aluminum wiring.
If your home has aluminum wiring, two options can help ensure that the wiring isn’t dangerous. The first and most obvious answer is a complete rewiring of your home. An electrician should use copper wire to replace aluminum because of its conductivity and stability. However, this process can be extensive.
When complete rewiring isn’t a viable solution, an electrician might suggest something known as pig tailing. Pig tailing describes the process of connecting the end of every aluminum wire in a home to a copper wire strand using a special wire connector. Pig tailing modernizes aluminum wiring enough to pass most local codes and inspections.
If your home is older and you’re uncertain if it has aluminum wiring, it probably does. Our team is ready to come to your home, inspect its wiring, and help you decide the best way to mitigate hazards from aluminum wires. We always consider your needs and budgets as we make your home’s electrical systems safer.

Last minute call to the local Mr. Sparky asking for the appointment for today, 4/2/2025. Was given a window of 8:30 AM to 1030 AM for arrival. Got a text that tech was on the way and he arrived a little after 9! The tech, John Tornabene, came in introduced himself and asked what all was going to be done. We pointed out the rooms where the celing light/fan was going to go, where the two pendents were going and where the long light was going. After looking over all the products John got to work. There were a few hick ups along the way and that was due to the use of puck lights and a lot of plastic being used in the construction of the house. John over came it all and finished and left the place better than when he found it. Professional, courteous, friendly and skilled are all good adjectives to describe this man! Great job John, thank you.

Very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Arrived on time and respectful of our home. They did the repairs requested and gave us an honest estimate for other work needed. Will definitely use again and highly recommend.

Read MoreJake and Blake arrived in the morning and introduced themselves before proceeding into any inspection of the circuit breaker. Jake thoroughly explained the process of the work that would be performed, how long the job would take, and the cost. Jake showed me pictures from a job that him and Blake did the day before as this would be the same job I was inquiring about for my home, which gave me piece of mind that the job would be done as clean as possible. I asked Jake to email me the quote and after maybe 5 minutes, my mind was made for Jake and Blake to do the job. I felt comfortable with the both of them and the fact that Jake was transparent with me made me feel at ease. Also, shoutout to Blake, who removed the panel to the breaker box and vacuumed out all the sawdust that was left behind, probably from when the house was built. This is a follow up review as both Jake and Blake came out to install our EV charger and when I asked how long the job could take, Jake said about 3-4 hours on average but wouldn’t you know, Jake and Blake were finished in about 2.5 hours. During the install, Jake pointed out something in our circuit breaker box that didn’t necessarily need attention but he took care of the potential issue for us, which we appreciated because he explained it could potentially be a safety concern. Overall the job was clean and there were no holes or conduit that needed to be done as other companies and contractors I contacted said that there could be a decent size hole that needed to be patched and painted or that conduit may need to be installed. Jake assured me that the hole he would make would be about an inch wide and no conduit would be needed. 10 out of 10 would recommend Mister Sparky and if you can, ask for Jake and Blake. Also, shoutout to Rita for being so communicative when setting up the initial inspection and the appointment.
