If you own a home with aluminum wiring and are having electrical problems or thinking about making changes, it's really important to talk to a qualified electrician. Aluminum wiring was commonly used in older houses, but it's been linked to safety issues and fire risks. Because aluminum wiring can have problems like oxidation and expanding/contracting, it can lead to loose connections and maybe even a fire risk.
Nowadays, people often use copper wiring for better safety. A certified electrician knows how to check your electrical system thoroughly. The skilled team of electricians at Mister Sparky will look for signs of trouble, like overheating or loose connections caused by the aging of the aluminum components.
Once they figure out what's going on, they'll suggest solutions based on your specific situation. They will also replace electrical devices like outlets and switches with ones made for aluminum wiring. This helps make sure everything works well together and lowers the risk of issues from different materials being used.
Call our team of aluminum wiring repair and replacement electricians at (813) 328-7210. Our team is ready to take your call 24/7.
Aluminum wire was popular in the 1960s and 1970s because of its weight, conductivity, and low cost. Though it has a bad reputation, aluminum wire is not always a fire risk if installed properly. Since aluminum shrinks and expands depending on the temperature, its connections to terminals can naturally loosen. Improperly secured aluminum wiring can loosen over time and cause sparks and overheating. The dangerous parts of aluminum wiring are at switches, outlets, and other terminals.
Electricians may not always need to replace aluminum wiring. However, if your home has aluminum wiring, you should always have it inspected by an electrician for safety. Since this type of wiring has the potential to be exceptionally dangerous, a pro should always be the one to inspect it. If you’re planning on selling your home soon, know that some home inspectors will no longer pass houses with aluminum wiring.
If your home has aluminum wiring, two options can help ensure that the wiring isn’t dangerous. The first and most obvious answer is a complete rewiring of your home. An electrician should use copper wire to replace aluminum because of its conductivity and stability. However, this process can be extensive.
When complete rewiring isn’t a viable solution, an electrician might suggest something known as pig tailing. Pig tailing describes the process of connecting the end of every aluminum wire in a home to a copper wire strand using a special wire connector. Pig tailing modernizes aluminum wiring enough to pass most local codes and inspections.
If your home is older and you’re uncertain if it has aluminum wiring, it probably does. Our team is ready to come to your home, inspect its wiring, and help you decide the best way to mitigate hazards from aluminum wires. We always consider your needs and budgets as we make your home’s electrical systems safer.

The entire experience was truly uplifting from start to finish. Jake was the first to arrive to provide a quote and service for the replacement of the outdoor GFCI outlets and electrical outdoor panel breaker replacement, setting a positive tone for the project. He provided a thorough explanation of the work, demonstrating patience and attention to detail that was truly inspiring. Upon approval of the job, Dakota and James arrived to complete the work, which also included the installation of five wired fire alarms, and together they formed an unbeatable team. Dakota exceeded expectations in assisting with a minor issue with a ceiling fan, showcasing his exceptional problem-solving skills. These three individuals are a shining asset to the Mister Sparky team.

Read MoreThe company and specifically Chris Carasa did a great job. Lots of discounts and added touches included. The work was performed the same day as the scheduled estimate. Completely replaced all the light switches, outlets and circuit breakers in just a couple hours. The place was spotless when they were finished with the work. I will definitely be using them again for my next project, I highly recommend them for your electrical needs.

Read MoreWe recently had the pleasure of interacting with a customer service representative from Mister Sparky, and we cannot express enough how impressed we were with the experience. From the moment we reached out, the professionalism displayed by the rep was top-notch. Zach is a awesome electrician. What stood out to us the most was how a manger in his dress shirt and pants helped us move a heavy cabinet while his electrician completed his work. We also love how thoroughly they broke down the process of what they were doing. They took the time clearly and patiently, ensuring we understood exactly what was happening. It was evident that they wanted to make sure we were well-informed and comfortable with the decisions being made. Additionally, Zack outlined what services would be provided and offered a clear breakdown of the costs involved before proceeding. No hidden fees or surprises—just straightforward information that made it easy for us to make an informed decision. Overall, this experience exceeded our expectations, and we felt valued as customers throughout the entire interaction. We highly recommend Mister Sparky for anyone seeking exceptional service paired with clear communication and professionalism!

Read MoreA couple of things that knocked the rating down a notch. First, price--it cost just north of $5,600 for panel rejuvenation, a Whip and a new AC disconnect--I think that is high--if you think that is reasonable, consider it a 5-star rating. Second, the emergency technician that came out at 10:00 PM, said he'd be back at 9AM the next day. Later the next day I received an email saying that someone would be out before noon. The technician, Curtis, was amazingly good. He was alone, without assistance. He understood that I was physically limited and was very thoughtful. His clean-up was very good and an absolute necessity. He was very dedicated to doing an excellent job, communicated well, provided pictures, and worked hard. The service took a little over 8 hours to complete during the hottest part of the day. I am thankful for the work completed.
