If you own a home with aluminum wiring and are having electrical problems or thinking about making changes, it's really important to talk to a qualified electrician. Aluminum wiring was commonly used in older houses, but it's been linked to safety issues and fire risks. Because aluminum wiring can have problems like oxidation and expanding/contracting, it can lead to loose connections and maybe even a fire risk.
Nowadays, people often use copper wiring for better safety. A certified electrician knows how to check your electrical system thoroughly. The skilled team of electricians at Mister Sparky will look for signs of trouble, like overheating or loose connections caused by the aging of the aluminum components.
Once they figure out what's going on, they'll suggest solutions based on your specific situation. They will also replace electrical devices like outlets and switches with ones made for aluminum wiring. This helps make sure everything works well together and lowers the risk of issues from different materials being used.
Call our team of aluminum wiring repair and replacement electricians at (737) 204-7338. Our team is ready to take your call 24/7.
Aluminum wire was popular in the 1960s and 1970s because of its weight, conductivity, and low cost. Though it has a bad reputation, aluminum wire is not always a fire risk if installed properly. Since aluminum shrinks and expands depending on the temperature, its connections to terminals can naturally loosen. Improperly secured aluminum wiring can loosen over time and cause sparks and overheating. The dangerous parts of aluminum wiring are at switches, outlets, and other terminals.
Electricians may not always need to replace aluminum wiring. However, if your home has aluminum wiring, you should always have it inspected by an electrician for safety. Since this type of wiring has the potential to be exceptionally dangerous, a pro should always be the one to inspect it. If you’re planning on selling your home soon, know that some home inspectors will no longer pass houses with aluminum wiring.
If your home has aluminum wiring, two options can help ensure that the wiring isn’t dangerous. The first and most obvious answer is a complete rewiring of your home. An electrician should use copper wire to replace aluminum because of its conductivity and stability. However, this process can be extensive.
When complete rewiring isn’t a viable solution, an electrician might suggest something known as pig tailing. Pig tailing describes the process of connecting the end of every aluminum wire in a home to a copper wire strand using a special wire connector. Pig tailing modernizes aluminum wiring enough to pass most local codes and inspections.
If your home is older and you’re uncertain if it has aluminum wiring, it probably does. Our team is ready to come to your home, inspect its wiring, and help you decide the best way to mitigate hazards from aluminum wires. We always consider your needs and budgets as we make your home’s electrical systems safer.

Contacted Mister Sparky to help with install of an EV charger plug. Was assisted by Nathanael and Ramiro. Nathanael arrived early, which worked great with my schedule. I asked him to install an additional 110V plug next to the charger plug, so he went to get additional parts. Ramiro joined to help with the work and stayed late to finish the job. I’m very happy with the results and would definitely work with them again.

Read MoreUhhgg….stupid Google just erased my super long review of Mr Sparky and Nathan :/ Here’s the shorter version… I called Mr Sparky and they set the appointment…waived the call fee since I am a first time customer. Nathan (super awesome electrician guy) came out…listened to my needs…looked at our equipment and took some measurements…then worked up an estimate while at my home. Because I general contract a lot of my own major projects…and many times just do the work myself (as the homeowner is allowed to do) I am familiar with the basic overall scope of the project at hand and understand how contracted professional pricing is done. However, for this particular project Austin Electric REQUIRES that I use a licensed electrician. (I mention this because the estimates given for the work seems very high. I didn’t deduct any stars on the review because I suspect that it is not Nathan, but the company that is setting the work rates) and I am confident that they would do a quality job. They did also offer some financing options that attempted to take the sting out of the overall numbers. That said, as a homeowner on a budget, there are probably more affordable options in the marketplace…smaller companies, small independent licensees, etc. I will definitely consider their bid for my project, but will definitely have to shop it around a bit. However, I have no doubt that Mr Sparky and Nathan would do a top notch job for whomever can handle pricing….wait for it….shock. (It would have been wrong not to ;) But 5* otherwise. Good luck with your project!

Read MoreI just want to give a huge shoutout to the team from Mister Sparky for their incredible service. Bon came out quickly and really took the time to explain what was going on with the electrical issue at my house. He walked me through everything, including the risks especially after the surge we had. Honestly, if the disconnect hadn’t been found when it was there’s a real chance my house could’ve caught fire. These guys were fast and super knowledgeable. I felt like I could trust them completely. Great company, great service.

Read MoreMr sparky did a great job taking care of my electrical issue. They presented me with a selection of options to clear up the electrical issues in my home and then sent Caesar out to do the work once we made a choice. Late in the day Caesar came back out after hours to help get my freezer back on because it had been shut off in the morning and not turn back on. Anyway, they were wonderful. It was a wonderful experience. They were responsive from start to finish.

Read More5 stars are not enough for how I felt about the service that Jesse and Celeb provided this week. We have an old home from the 70’s and the house lost power. I called at 9:00pm and Jesse was at the house the next morning. He gave us all our options and we decided to completely replace our exterior panel. Pricing was quickly provided and felt absolutely fair and reasonable. They sent Caleb within 2 hours to do the job. Caleb was amazing, worked hours outside in the heat and wouldn’t leave until he was absolutely sure everything was working as it should. From speed, pricing, job completeness, courtesy, and pride of workmanship, Jesse, Caleb and Mr Sparky dispatch teams truly outdid themselves. I won’t ever call another company for my electrical needs again. Heartfelt thanks to them for saving the day (month and year).
