If you own a home with aluminum wiring and are having electrical problems or thinking about making changes, it's really important to talk to a qualified electrician. Aluminum wiring was commonly used in older houses, but it's been linked to safety issues and fire risks. Because aluminum wiring can have problems like oxidation and expanding/contracting, it can lead to loose connections and maybe even a fire risk.
Nowadays, people often use copper wiring for better safety. A certified electrician knows how to check your electrical system thoroughly. The skilled team of electricians at Mister Sparky will look for signs of trouble, like overheating or loose connections caused by the aging of the aluminum components.
Once they figure out what's going on, they'll suggest solutions based on your specific situation. They will also replace electrical devices like outlets and switches with ones made for aluminum wiring. This helps make sure everything works well together and lowers the risk of issues from different materials being used.
Call our team of aluminum wiring repair and replacement electricians at (801) 876-1383. Our team is ready to take your call 24/7.
Aluminum wire was popular in the 1960s and 1970s because of its weight, conductivity, and low cost. Though it has a bad reputation, aluminum wire is not always a fire risk if installed properly. Since aluminum shrinks and expands depending on the temperature, its connections to terminals can naturally loosen. Improperly secured aluminum wiring can loosen over time and cause sparks and overheating. The dangerous parts of aluminum wiring are at switches, outlets, and other terminals.
Electricians may not always need to replace aluminum wiring. However, if your home has aluminum wiring, you should always have it inspected by an electrician for safety. Since this type of wiring has the potential to be exceptionally dangerous, a pro should always be the one to inspect it. If you’re planning on selling your home soon, know that some home inspectors will no longer pass houses with aluminum wiring.
If your home has aluminum wiring, two options can help ensure that the wiring isn’t dangerous. The first and most obvious answer is a complete rewiring of your home. An electrician should use copper wire to replace aluminum because of its conductivity and stability. However, this process can be extensive.
When complete rewiring isn’t a viable solution, an electrician might suggest something known as pig tailing. Pig tailing describes the process of connecting the end of every aluminum wire in a home to a copper wire strand using a special wire connector. Pig tailing modernizes aluminum wiring enough to pass most local codes and inspections.
If your home is older and you’re uncertain if it has aluminum wiring, it probably does. Our team is ready to come to your home, inspect its wiring, and help you decide the best way to mitigate hazards from aluminum wires. We always consider your needs and budgets as we make your home’s electrical systems safer.

I had a lot of work for them and he was able to get it all done in one day, he even had to go to the store for parts did a fantastic job. Checked our whole house. Ran a new line in our garage because several sockets, out there, wire got nicked and stopped working . Now fixed. But cost $1,400. $400 to checked problems and $1000 to run wire. They came back to do re wiring our bedroom had to re wire the light re wire outlets and put in a new electric panel. They came out at the last minute and finished up before my big party I feel very safe now. Before our electric was tripping every day with fear of house burning down. Now I feel safe. But once again it was very expensive $4,500. They were fast. Precise, neat, professional, and did a good job.

Read MoreI looked for a quote on Angie’s List for a ceiling fan install and Mister Sparky were the most-communicative and straightforward with their safety inspections and quoting. Elliot came out and did the quote and helped break down what I needed and some safety and quality of life upgrades, then helped explain my choices. They offered to do the work same day which was convenient. I opted to take some time to think about it and scheduled for a week or so later. On the day of our appointment, I did need to call and make sure they were still coming as I didn’t get any confirmation. They let me know they were running a little late but assured me they were on their way. The manager called an hour later and explained a job was going longer than planned to address some safety concerns, but someone was still coming. 3 hours after the original appointment window, I got a call asking to reschedule. They were really nice to work with, and a little more communication would have been appreciated. Kyle and Robin came out to do the job and they were very communicative and respectful. They did a really clean job installing the ceiling fans. They made sure I saw how everything worked and pointed out an issue with the fan I bought so I could work out the warranty. After they left, I realized a three way switch wasn’t wired the way I expected, but I think that’s an easy fix. Overall, I would recommend them for quality of work, timing, and customer satisfaction.

Read MoreElliot and Anthony did a great job finishing a complex job in a day, Anthony even stayed late (with his supervisor I believe?) to make sure the job got done. The project included replacing most of the outlets and switches in the home to aluminum compatible devices, along with a new electrical panel. The day after, Elliot came back (with another electrician whose name I forgot) to label the panel and fix any mishaps that we noticed. Would be a 5 star review if they cleaned up a little better after themselves and, at the very least, told us about breaking a family souvenir from Peru. We found the souvenir placed back on the shelf it likely fell from and still finding pieces of copper lying around the house, which is a concern with little ones running around the house. Overall, satisfied with the services and professional demeanor of both Elliot and Anthony. Just a little disappointed about the broken souvenir.

Read MoreMr Sparky, more specifically, Anthony, saved my sanity and enhanced my living space. YouTube did not have the resources to help me in replacing my geriatric, hard wired smoke detectors, who communicate with each other. I tried and failed and the chirping was hard to tolerate. Since I obviously needed professional help, I called Mr Sparky. Even though it was after normal office hours, I was still able to schedule an appointment for the next day between 11-1. Anthony arrived during that window and fixed my smoke detector issues fairly easily, AND put up a new light fixture for me, which is stunning. He also answered all my questions about electricity, which I had plenty of, after trying to be a DIY-er.

Read MoreHigh quality service, essentially send you an electrician on demand. Good for work which needs to be done quickly and professionally. Prices are high as they can be there same-day and are available around the clock. Scheduling system is a bit wonky, so make sure to always call and confirm appoint times. They have an AI which handles incoming calls but it is surprisingly easy to use and good at routing you to a human. Phone number provided in text message alerts to you is the best one to use, not the one on Google.
