Types of EV Chargers

An electric vehicle’s ability to quickly recharge depends on two things: a home’s electrical supply and the EV charging unit used. EV chargers are broken down into three levels. Level one chargers are the slowest, while level three chargers are the fastest.

Level 1 Chargers

A level 1 charger comes standard with an electric vehicle. Because they use a home’s standard outlet, these chargers are most useful for slow overnight charges.

Level 2 Chargers

Level two chargers do their job faster but require an electrician for installation. These chargers need a dedicated 240-volt circuit to supply a current strong enough to charge an electric vehicle at a faster rate. Level 2 chargers can add approximately 70 miles of range for each hour of charging! These are the most popular options for home charging.

Level 3 Chargers

Level 3 EV chargers are incredibly fast but require an industrial supply of power, making them difficult for homeowners to install. These charging stations can recharge an electric vehicle’s battery to 80% in only 30 minutes. Level 3 chargers are not typically possible to install at home.

What Amperage Do I Need on My Breaker Panel for EV Charger Installation?

To install a Level 2 charger, you will probably need a 150 amp or 200 amp service. For 100 amp service or less, your EV or Tesla charger will probably take up too much capacity for your home. You may need to consider an upgrade for lower amp service. We recommend installing a 200 amp service to ensure you have enough capacity to handle the electrical demands of your home.

Luke Williams did a great job removing two chandeliers! One was in the hallway, the other in the dining room. I'm not sure how long the chandeliers were there, but Luke was incredible in conversations with removal problems. Luke installed the new light fixtures very efficiently and the new fixtures look and work great! We will definitely request Luke Williams for electrical projects in the future!

Bradley was very nice and informative. He took the time too go over all options to fix issue. The outlet behind refrigerator had to be moved and the mess from cutting out new outlet was not swept up. Overall experience wasn't bad.

We needed several new outlets in our basement gym. Steven with Mister Sparkly Electric evaluated and did the work. We ended up needed additional surge protectors plus a dedicated outlet for a infrared-light sauna and a shortage GFI in one of the bathrooms. We ended up needing more than we realized. The downside was that it was significantly more expenses than we anticipated. On the positive side, they gave us 3 pricing options; of which we chose the middle one. They are very professional and warranty their work. In regard to Steven our job electrician, he was a very good ambassador of the company brand. Steven was polite, a great communicator, enthusiastic and hardworking. He made sure to go above and beyond in doing outstanding quality work. To summarize: if you want the cheapest than I don't think Mister Sparky is what you want. However, if you want a highly professional job done with a guarantee on their work than this is the company. They do have a payment plan option for expensive jobs through a 3rd party. Out of 5 companies I initially called they are the only ones who picked up the phone and got me scheduled right away.
