What Is A GFCI Outlet?

A GFCI outlet is a ground fault circuit interrupter that protects you and your family from receiving electrical shocks from faults in electrical devices. A GFCI outlet compares the input current on the hot side to the output current on the neutral side. If there’s the slightest difference in current, then it protects you by quickly cutting off the power supply. It only takes 20 to 30 milliseconds to shut off the power supply—significantly reducing the risk of getting electrocuted.
