Power surges occur when something disrupts the electrical flow and the voltage spikes. High-energy appliances and lighting are two common causes of power surges that can affect your valuables. For example, a surge can shorten the lifespan of your electronic appliances or devices, and in the worst-case scenario, a surge can cause a fire. Installing a whole-house surge suppressor can prevent surges from affecting your home.
We carry a variety of surge protectors that include the following benefits:
Our team at Mister Sparky® provides convenient whole-house surge protection. We install point-of-use surge protectors to ensure that your appliances won’t be affected. Although some power strips have basic surge protection built-in, they aren’t enough to protect your home because plugs don’t protect your appliances the way a surge protector does. Our team of electricians is licensed, trained, and prepared to handle any electrical project, no matter how big or small.

Did you know? The 2020 National Electric Code (NEC) has made surge protection required in many states for service replacement and upgrades, and most states are now requiring homeowners to install a Type 1 surge protector?
To ensure the safety of both individuals and the electrical system, we strongly recommend having a licensed electrician handle the installation of a whole-house surge protector. Dealing with electrical systems carries inherent risks, including the potential for electrical shock. Trained professionals are equipped to navigate these hazards safely. The installation process can be complex when it involves hardwiring the unit into the electrical panel of your home. The complexity of this process requires knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and regulations to ensure proper installation without compromising safety or functionality.
At Mister Sparky®, we leave your home safer than we found it. Our team always hunts down potential hazards and fixes them before they cause serious damage. We respect and value your time, so we guarantee on time arrivals to scheduled appointments: “We're On Time, You'll See, Or The Repair Is Free!”™ Our clients come back to us again and again because they know we put their needs first. Definitely five star service! Matt Armstrong with Mr Sparky came to check out some electrical issues I was having with appliances. It turns out one of my breakers was partly burned up and my 40-year-old panel box needed replaced. He did what was needed to make everything safe for the night and came back the next morning to replace the panel box. Matt was very personable, kind and capable. I also wanted him to install a flood light on my shed, but I bought one without a motion sensor by mistake. I ordered the right one from Lowe's but couldn't go pick it up since I had three other guys in my house as well, working on my bathroom tile. So Matt offered to come back in 2 days and install that at no extra charge for that visit. I've used this company before and they have always done a great job! Their prices seem a good deal lower than other companies, too. I trust them, as I do Matt, and wouldn't hesitate to use them again. In fact, my sister asked me for their contact information, and I'll be recommending them to others.

Matt A was SO helpful and went truly above and beyond to make sure that my mother was comfortable and happy with her service. His kindness made all the difference in the world!

We recently had a new washer/dryer delivered from a local appliance store. The 240-volt outlet sparked when I plugged-in the dryer, and then the dryer didn’t seem to be getting any power. I called Mr. Sparky and they sent Robert Owen to figure out what was going on. I instantly recognized Robert from a previous visit, so I knew before he even stepped in the house that he would be able to diagnose and resolve the situation quickly. Robert first found that the dryer’s circuit breaker had been blown. After installing the new breaker, he knew that something still wasn’t right. He asked me if I had installed the dryer’s power cord myself. The delivery team from the appliance store (let’s call it “West Coast Appliance”) had verified that I needed a 4-prong plug and installed the power cord before they brought it into the house. I told Robert he was welcome to remove the access panel from the back of the dryer to check the power cord connection. He found the problem as soon as he removed the cover – the delivery team had attached the ground to the wrong terminal. I guess that blowing the circuit breaker was the least amount of damage that this incompetence could have caused. It could have also blown the dryer’s motor or even started a fire. Robert re-wired the power cord properly, tightened the vent hose connections, and then helped me push the dryer back against the wall. A little about his last visit back in the summer – I was prepared to spend a couple thousand dollars on a dedicated circuit in the kitchen, but Robert made a couple of adjustments, told me what I needed to do to ensure the circuit wasn’t overloaded, and saved me a lot of money. Robert is a pleasure to work with. He is friendly, knowledgeable, and goes above and beyond what the job requires. I will everything I can do for him to maintain his 5-star rating. This is my official request to Mr. Sparky to make Robert my preferred technician. I know I will ask for him by name anytime I need electrician support! Thank you, Robert!
