If you own a home with aluminum wiring and are having electrical problems or thinking about making changes, it's really important to talk to a qualified electrician. Aluminum wiring was commonly used in older houses, but it's been linked to safety issues and fire risks. Because aluminum wiring can have problems like oxidation and expanding/contracting, it can lead to loose connections and maybe even a fire risk.
Nowadays, people often use copper wiring for better safety. A certified electrician knows how to check your electrical system thoroughly. The skilled team of electricians at Mister Sparky will look for signs of trouble, like overheating or loose connections caused by the aging of the aluminum components.
Once they figure out what's going on, they'll suggest solutions based on your specific situation. They will also replace electrical devices like outlets and switches with ones made for aluminum wiring. This helps make sure everything works well together and lowers the risk of issues from different materials being used.
Call our team of aluminum wiring repair and replacement electricians at (843) 305-3911. Our team is ready to take your call 24/7.
Aluminum wire was popular in the 1960s and 1970s because of its weight, conductivity, and low cost. Though it has a bad reputation, aluminum wire is not always a fire risk if installed properly. Since aluminum shrinks and expands depending on the temperature, its connections to terminals can naturally loosen. Improperly secured aluminum wiring can loosen over time and cause sparks and overheating. The dangerous parts of aluminum wiring are at switches, outlets, and other terminals.
Electricians may not always need to replace aluminum wiring. However, if your home has aluminum wiring, you should always have it inspected by an electrician for safety. Since this type of wiring has the potential to be exceptionally dangerous, a pro should always be the one to inspect it. If you’re planning on selling your home soon, know that some home inspectors will no longer pass houses with aluminum wiring.
If your home has aluminum wiring, two options can help ensure that the wiring isn’t dangerous. The first and most obvious answer is a complete rewiring of your home. An electrician should use copper wire to replace aluminum because of its conductivity and stability. However, this process can be extensive.
When complete rewiring isn’t a viable solution, an electrician might suggest something known as pig tailing. Pig tailing describes the process of connecting the end of every aluminum wire in a home to a copper wire strand using a special wire connector. Pig tailing modernizes aluminum wiring enough to pass most local codes and inspections.
If your home is older and you’re uncertain if it has aluminum wiring, it probably does. Our team is ready to come to your home, inspect its wiring, and help you decide the best way to mitigate hazards from aluminum wires. We always consider your needs and budgets as we make your home’s electrical systems safer.

I had an excellent experience with Mister Sparky of Florence SC! They installed a ceiling fan in my barber studio and did an outstanding job. The work was professional, quick, and clean—everything was done with care and attention to detail. The fan looks great and works perfectly, making the shop more comfortable for my clients. I really appreciated the electrician’s friendly attitude and how clearly they explained everything. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing reliable electrical work. To Daniele and the other Gentleman with the spinning waves! Thank you!

Read MoreGreat experience resolving a series of complex upgrades! My home is older and has had several additions over the decades and I had three breaker boxes consolidated into one that meets code. Smaller non related repairs were also included in this job. Brian (master electrician) and his assistant, Billy, came out to take on this huge transformation. I will say that Brian totally knows his stuff and at this point would not consider using anybody else. A larger company such as Mister Sparky actually can setup and complete jobs much faster than some of the local guys that may be great at what they do, but just don't have the resources to get these larger jobs done so quickly. Brian coordinated: pulling permits for the job, ensuring the power company was onsite (day of) to disconnect power from the street, have them return for reconnection, as well as the coordination of onsite county inspection to dovetail in a way that to me seemed seamless. Everyone was extremely professional ensuring proper protocol was followed to meet code. If you have an older home that was constructed in the 1950s - 1970s, please check to see if you have any Federal Pacific breaker boxes. Also do your own due diligence and you will see countless accounts of the dangers that exist due to breakers not flipping when electrical overloads do occur. Your house could burn down (based on my online research). All of this was done over the span of one and a half days (cold, windy, with rain); these guys just kept going at it regardless. I am more than pleased and can rest better knowing my older home is safer. I recommend using this group and I will be reaching out again for some smaller (nice to have) upgrades soon.

Read MoreThank goodness we called this business! Jerry did an amazing job! Brian was a great help, too. They were very patient at completing our request for several jobs in our home and not in a rush to get to the next job. So professional and knowledgeable. I like how you receive a call, email and picture before arrival. This makes you feel confident and safe. If you need a fantastic electrician this is the one!

Read MoreI recently had a full electrical analysis and home inspection done, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the service. The electrician, Anthony, was thorough, professional, and took the time to explain everything in detail—from potential problem areas to energy-saving recommendations. He didn’t just rush through the job; he made sure every outlet, breaker, and wire was inspected and safe. I was impressed by his attention to detail and the clear, easy-to-understand report I received afterward. It gave me real peace of mind and I would highly recommend their services to anyone needing a trustworthy and knowledgeable electrical professional!

Read MoreWe had a move of a power pole, trenching to three out buildings, the installation of sub panels and the wiring of outlets and light switches. Daniel as the lead technician was professional, knowledgeable and efficient. Daniel and his team member, his name escapes me, completed over 300 feet of trenching the first day. We were very impressed with this feat as there were many tree roots to overcome. The installation and wiring of the three outbuildings took two days. Three days to complete the job. The county inspector arrived the next day and spent approximately 10 minutes to inspect Daniels work. Duke Progress arrived later in the afternoon, as the inspection results were satisfactory with no comments from the county inspector. The Duke Lineman re-tapped the new power pole and moved the meter. No concerns were noted by the Duke Lineman. We are very satisfied with the work that Daniel and his team performed. We do recommend Mr. Sparky for those folks who wish to have electrical work performed. Bill
