Battery Operated

Hardwired vs. Battery Operated Video Doorbells

Video Doorbell

CONGRATULATIONS!

LIKELY YOU’VE RECENTLY BOUGHT A VIDEO DOORBELL LIKE THE RING OR NEST! HERE ARE A FEW DIFFERENCES IN THE WAY YOU CAN INSTALL AND INTEGRATED THESE WITH YOUR HOME:

HARDWIRING YOUR VIDEO DOORBELL

One option is to hardwire the video doorbell into your existing wiring.

Make sure it operates between 8 volts AC and 24 volts AC to avoid any issues. The benefit to this option is that it will stay charged with normal use.

BATTERY OPERATED VIDEO DOORBELL

Using the batter-operating option of your video doorbell is your second option. These batteries will last anywhere from six months to one year before having to be replaced. Unlike hardwiring, this option takes time to charge, and can take anywhere from 4 to 10 hours to fully charge your new video doorbell.
